Most religious traditions bear two tracks, or curriculums, through which to develop one’s self spiritually. The first is foundational and the second, involving the realm of the mystical or that which is inclusive of, yet beyond foundations. These latter tracks are the ultimate koan, the religious or spiritual practice for which all other practices were but a preparation. And that is, the practice of your very life, and involves that which drives you, lights you up, and incites passion in your heart, in your pelvis, and in your soul. In the yogic and Buddhist traditions, this track is called Tantra and it’s considered the quickest, no-holds-barred route to enlightenment. Widely misunderstood, we’ll take a forthright and applicable approach to Tantra. This workshop is taught by long-time practitioner and teacher, Kimberley Theresa Lafferty, of the Seattle area and will include lecture, discussion, and meditation.

Yoga heals the mind/body disconnection, but is this a completely metaphysical concept? Is there a physiological basis? The answer, of course, is yes. In this module we will explore yoga's profound ability to shift our physiology and alter our nervous system. We will draw heavily on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras as a therapeutic path, discuss the basics of polyvagal theory, and explore how our nervous system interacts with that of others. Through conscious practice of pranayama, asana, and mindfulness meditation we will delve into yoga's ability to either up regulate or down regulate our nervous system. Learning to use these techniques as medicine for your mental health is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and your students.
 
This training is 40 hours of Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Credits or toward your 300 hour Yoga Alliance Certification through Live Well Studio.

Breathing is linked to the function of the heart and circulatory system, nervous system, gastrointestinal system, and affects your mental well-being, concentration, and energy level. In this series, we will explore our breathing habits and retrain the breath patterns to be open and full. This is not a pranayam series. We will use gentle movement, investigative exercise, and mindful awareness to understand and awaken our breath. Please bring a journal.
