I’ve been engaged with contemplative practice (yoga and meditation) for well over a decade, and have taught for the last seven years…each passing day, month, and year brings me into deeper relationship with the practice, myself, and others. Yoga teaches me to unravel the intricacies of my heart… and when I think I’ve reached some end point… it guides me to a new corner that requires some work. My hatha yoga practice teaches me to pay attention to my body… that there is much to be learned from this body, and that the body is a gateway to presence, wisdom and love. I am grateful to have studied Hatha Yoga with the most masterful Kira Ryder, Lisa Wells, Darren Rhodes, and Christina Sell, and I study meditation, yoga philosophy, and Tibetan Buddhism with my Holy Guides: Kimberley Theresa, Mira Shani, Jarret Levine, and Douglas Veenhoff. My meditation practice teaches me of the profundity of the mind, attention, dreams -- William James says it concisely, "For the moment, what we attend to is reality." I am a Master's student at Oregon State University, where I study meditation/contemplative practices, Eastern philosophy, and psychology. View Kate's Website http://wisdomlotus.org
Katelin Gallagher instructs the following:
Gentle Yoga ~ Level 1
Gentle Yoga is yoga practiced at a gentle pace. Gentle Yoga increases flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance while reducing pain, decreasing stress, and improving overall health. This class will teach poses and body awareness with adaptations, modifications and the use of props. Gentle Yoga is appropriate for those new to yoga, those wishing to practice at a slower place, and those with injuries and movement limitations. Students should be able to independently get from the standing to the floor and back. Meditation and savasana bound the practice
Flow Yoga ~ Level 2
Flow yoga (level 2) synchronizes movement with breath as yoga postures flow from one to the next. The Level 2 class moves at a faster pace and assumes that the students are aware of basic yoga asana and are able to adapt poses for their body's strengths and weaknesses. Class will include inversions and arm balances along with sun salutes, standing poses, back bends, forward bends, meditation and relaxation. Advanced asana will be taught. Meditation and savasana bound the practice.
Yin Yoga ~ Level 1
Yin Yoga is a practice of cultivating a relationship to ease, rest, and release of tension. There is an emphasis on floor postures, supported postures, and long holds. It is an ideal complement to more muscular “yang” forms of yoga. Pranayama and meditation complement the yin yoga practice.
Yoga Nidra: Exploring Yogic Sleep, Lucid Dreaming & Dream Yoga
This class is intended to investigate what one yogi described as "the promised land of relaxation." The practice of meditation could be articulated as creating the conditions for and revealing subtle states of mind and body. Yoga, deep relaxation, sleep, and dreaming are also activities in which the subtle mind and body can be accessed, they are gateways to meditation. In this experiential class, we'll use gentle yoga, deep relaxation, and yoga nidra (yogic sleep) as gateways to our subtle selves. We'll also discuss lucid dreaming and dream yoga as pathways in a yogi/meditator's practice.
