Irene Schoppy is a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher who started teaching in 2004.  Not long after that she moved from New Jersey to Corvallis to be closer to nature, local foods, and all the beauty this state has to offer.

“My yoga classes include meditation and pranayama (breath awareness and control) in addition to yoga poses.  I bring my love of nature and yoga philosophy into class with poems and readings.”

Irene is a registered Kripala Yoga Instructor (KYTA) and continuing her yoga training at Kripalu, now working towards her 500 hour certification.  Irene welcomes all levels into her classes.  As a dedicated hiker, runner and bike commuter, she is well aware of the tight areas many students are faced with.

For Fun:

My favorite pose is… Headstand – I love to get the different perspective this pose provides!

The pose I avoid or “forget” to teach – is Hanumanasa (splits), my tight hamstrings make this impossible without lots of props

I find inspiration… in nature, in the purr of my cats, and in the arms of my husband

My hobbies include… backpacking, cycling, reading, organic gardening, cooking

I’d like to visit… New Zealand

My favorite quote is… Let the beauty you love be what you do ~Rumi

People are surprised to learn…  that I thru-hiked the Appalachian trail (yes, all 2,168 miles) in 2001 with my husband, as our honeymoon
